Australian Teams in Safe Hands

With the World Cup only a few days we take a closer look at who will be leading out the Australian Extreme Men’s and the Australian Extreme Ladies sides.

Lyle Teske and Jude Coleman, both long-time skippers of the Queensland Thunder (men’s) and Queensland Lighting (women’s) teams, will wear the green and gold as their respective national captains.

Australia has not lost a World Cup campaign in either men’s or women’s competitions since its inauguration in 1995 and the experienced duo will be keen to maintain this proud record.

Coleman, who also enjoyed a distinguished outdoor career with the Konica Minolta Queensland Fire, is a PE teacher who has played indoor cricket for 17 years.

In that time she has represented Queensland for 14 years and Australia for the past 13 years.

Her honours during that time include:

  • Captained both Qld and Australia since 2005 (10 years)
  • Won national championships for Qld 11 times
  • Has never lost a series playing for Australia
  • Has won 5 World Cups, 3 Trans-Tasman series, 1 Ashes, 1 Quad series, 1 series v Sri Lanka
  • Has only lost 5 games representing Australia – all to South Africa
  • Has won the Monika Brogan medal five times. This medal is the highest honour for female indoor cricket players in Australia

Teske, an indoor cricket centre owner from Toowoomba whose wife Katrina has also played for Queensland, is captaining Australia for the second World Cup in a row.

His career includes the following highlights:

  • Played for Qld for 13yrs and won 9 national championships
  • Been captain of Qld for the past 3 years winning all 3.
  • Played for Australia for the past 8 years.
  • This is his second year as captain having previously been vice-captain for 2 years
  • Has won 3 World Cups, 2 Trans-Tasman series, and the 2013 series in Sri Lanka
  • Won player of the series at the 2009 World Cup in Brisbane
  • Made the World 8 side at the 2011 World Cup in South Africa

With credentials like these the Australian sides are definitely in safe hands and I’m sure Lyle and Jude will be hoping to get their hands on the World Cup trophy on the 25th of this month.

In2Indoor would like to extend a special thanks to Queensland Cricket for their assistance in putting this article together.
