Australia Continues Dominance

Day 3 was another day full of wins for the Australian sides, can they be beaten? Here is a review of the day’s play:

Open Men’s

The Open Men’s team only had 1 game on day 3 which took place at 8:30PM local time. The Aussie side cruised to a 131 (4) – 22 (0) victory over England who have only managed one win thus far.

Mark Rice, or bubbles as he is known to his teammates continued his fine form in his first International event. The 22 year old from Sportsworld Peakhurst in NSW played in his first National Championships this year and earned a call up to the World Cup squad and he is definitely showing that he has what it takes to perform at the highest level. Rice partnered by seasoned campaigner Lance MacDougall put on 43 for Australia’s second skin and Rice then went on to take 3 for -3 with the ball. He is definitely a player to keep an eye on.

Open Ladies

The batting of the Australian Ladies team has been sensational throughout the tournament thus far and the team are averaging over 150 runs a game. Chasing 150+ is a massive order for any opposition at this level and this sees the ladies remain unbeaten on top of the ladder. Every member of the squad is currently averaging over 16 runs a games and has a positive contribution average which has allowed Coach Donna Dalby to rotate her squad with confidence.

Under 20 Men’s

2 Kiwi opponents on day 3 for the U20 Men’s side. The first game against New Zealand was a relatively comfortable win with the game being controlled by the Aussies throughout. Australia were in first and posted skins of 43; 31; 49 & 16 for a total of 139 and they started the 2nd innings positively restricting New Zealand to 37 off the first 2 skins. This left a mammoth task for the 4 remaining batsmen who managed to post a further 80 runs and win 1 skin but this left them 32 short.

The second game was a much tighter affair, New Zealand A were chasing 122 and were ahead of the at the half way point of the innings, but some good bowling from Wade Burrowes, Ben Cooper and Blair Oakley restricted the 3rd pair to just 19. The final pair came in needing 36 but Tristian Hoarou and Jamie Diener managed to hold the pair on 0 after their first 2 overs. With a smack of desperation the Kiwi pair of Elliot Law and Rory Howell let loose scoring 33 off the last 2 overs, but this left them 2 runs shy of the Aussie total. A great game to watch.

Under 20 Ladies

The 20 Ladies were seeking revenge for their day 1 loss to New Zealand when they faced them for a second time. The New Zealand were unbeaten to that point but the Aussies delivered an indoor cricket lesson with a massive 142 (4) – 66 (0) win. Samantha Dixon was the star of the show, scoring 20 in Australia’s opening pair stand of 40 with Anna Paton. Dixon was lethal with the ball with a massive six wickets falling against her bowling.

The ladies kept up the momentum in their 6:00PM game against England where they took advantage of a weak bowling attack to post 177 in their 16 overs. Amy Edgar and Anna Paton leading the onslaught with 34 and 32 respectively. The mammoth total was more than enough to win the game with England posting just 41.
